National Championship Female Barbershop Chorus Awarded Charity Grant For International Competition

03 June 2013

Gold medal champion chorus and international competitors, Viva Acappella have been awarded a grant from London based charity, The Skinners’ Company Lady Neville Charity.

The grant of £1000 was awarded to Viva Acappella in May following an application by the chorus which was submitted in April.  The Skinners’ Company Lady Neville Charity provides grants that will make a clear and significant contribution to grassroots charitable organizations working in designated priority areas such as performing and visual arts.  One-off grants of up to £1,000 are made to small registered charities and not-for-profit organisations.

Musical Director, Gaynor Dugay commented “We were absolutely delighted to receive the news that our application for the grant was accepted.  We have applied for many grants following the news in May 2012 that we were to travel to Honolulu, Hawaii to compete in the Sweet Adelines International Barbershop Championships in November this year, but unfortunately we have not been eligible due to the competition taking place outside of the UK.  This will be a huge addition to our fundraising achieved to date.  With just five months to go we are still very busy raising funds through raffles, garden parties and summer balls to cover the cost of travel, accommodation and costume”.

The grant will be used to purchase costume and branded clothing for the chorus to wear during their time at the championships and performance on stage.

Viva Acappella will be representing the UK & Netherlands at the International Barbershop Championships being held in Honolulu, Hawaii. The four day annual event, organised by US based Sweet Adelines International, attracts over 10,000 singers from all over the world and will be hosted at the International Hawai’i Convention Center in Honolulu from 5th – 9th November 2013.
